Melissa Michelle's Beauty Corner: Skin Care

The season is changing and sometimes your skincare regime may need to change in order to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Here are 5 skincare tips to keep your skin glowing and radiant through the winter months!
  1. Drink lots of water. Water hydrates your body from the inside out by flushing out toxins and waste products which can cause breakouts. If you hate drinking water try adding lemon drops to your water and drinking it with your meals.
  2. Exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and helps to deeply cleanse the pores. This should be done 2 to 3 times per week to prevent stripping the skin of its natural oils.
  3. Use a serum. Serums are more concentrated versions of moisturizer that penetrates deeper into the skin. Serums should be used before moisturizer to add and extra boost of hydration. They are also great for treating sun damage, skin discolorations, and acne. I love the RX for brown skin intensive exfoliating serum.
  4. Moisturize daily. Moisturizers hydrate the skin and creates a smoother texture to the skin. Try using one with at least SPF15 to protect your skin from the sun. If you have oily skin you should still use a moisturizer that is oil free. My favorite is ambi even and clear moisturizer with SPF 30.
  5. Protect your lips. Cold weather tends to dry out the lips. Keep a lip moisturizer handy to prevent dry, flaky, cracked lips. My new favorite is eos lip balm. It is made with shea butter and vitamin E and keeps your lips feeling smooth and moist without being too greasy.
