Me: What is the name of your company
Le'roy: Roy'aLe Market
Me: What got you interested in designing, particularly these shirts?
Le: Everyone has their personal opinion on who they think the greatest hip-hop artist of all time is. Depending on what era you grew up in, which coast u kicked it at; all factored into the your preference. Its a debate that every Hip-hop fan has been a part of and Biggie/Pac/Jay-Z and Nas happen to be the 4 artists that seem to come up the most from my generation. I personally enjoy all of em, they all bring a different element to the genre so its impossible to say who is actually better.. but what would happen if you were to combine all of what they stood for into one artist?? -- the answer is the King of Mic's.. Its always cool when I rock these shirts on the subway and I see people staring trying to figure out who's on the shirt
Me: What makes your brand unique or how does your brand stand out from other designers?
Le: I incorporated different elements of art into this design, I want it to be fun and interesting.. I feel that its visually appealing but i added the element of symbolism and mystery which is fitting because the death cases of biggie and pac have yet to be solved. The graphics are just as meaningful as the text in the design. Its more of a collectors piece rather than a fashion item. I dont really consider myself a designer, I wanted to create art that other folks could rock or just appreciate on their wall. Imagination is a cool thing.
Me: Is there any significance behind the lyrics you chose to put on the shirt? If so, do tell!
Le: Since the creation is of 4 legends, I thought it would be cool to hear what a verse would sound like if they all chimed in on a track as one person, so i took pieces of some of their songs and constructed one.. the white background and font is a tribute to Biggie's first album "Ready to Die" artwork..
Me: Will you ever reveal the secret message??
Le: Not if I want the Illuminati after me! Nah but an artist never really decodes his lyrics, thats why you have the rewind feature on ur ipod cd player or walkman HA!.. fans of art will eventually figure out what it says, but then they need to figure out where it came from....Give it a shot, were giving away some free hoodies to a select few who do.
Me: Ok so I want to start cracking the code! Where can I buy a shirt?
Le: If you think you've deciphered the mystery, go on twitter, follow @kingofmics and tweet ur guesses... but u can cop a shirt/hoodie/poster/bib or even a shirt for ur hip-hop lovin bulldog.. http://www.zazzle. com/royale_market
Me: Did you do the artwork for the shirt as well?
Le: It was a collaboration, I developed the concept n vision, selected the images that i wanted to blend together and presented it to accomplished West African oil painter Filomena Sousa, she was able to understand the vision, executed it then I added the text element afterward.
Me: Anything else we should know about you and your company?
Le: I also run a music management/marketing company called Noizy Cricket!! we've introduced some pretty cool music to the world such as Charles Hamilton, XV and Das Racist. If your talented n serious, let your music find my ears. You can become someones new favorite artist.... As far as Roy'aLe Market, theres def an array of art coming ur way soon, ranging from political figures, to religious pontiff's & dignitaries, world leaders, celebrities, athletes and icons...
Me: How can we follow what you're up to next?
Le: Follow me on twitter! NoizyCricketLB
